: : : I know you meant well, But as a electronic tech and bass player of over 20
: : : years...DON'T EVER PUT A GROUNDING STRAP ON YOURSELF. That is a quick way to
: : : kill your self! Change your pickups, install shielding in your control cavity
: : : in order to better ground your bass...but never ground yourself!
: : : Keep it in the groove

: : Wouldn't hear the buzz anymore though....

: So...the fact that I use one daily for computer repair had no bearing on this matter? as long as the strap is just connecting you to your bass, as I suggested, it is EXACTLY the same as touching the strings or knobs. Right? I fail to see the danger in touching my instrument...and if there is one possibly we should all take up something safer...like shuffleboard. ;)

Deman,
Ok, here's the difference: The grounding strap that you wear for computer work takes any static electricity that's in your body and shunts it to ground so that it won't fry the ICs.

Wearing a grounding strap and playing an instrument gives you the exciting opportunity to have any stray AC voltage go across your body - not unlike getting "bit" by an improperly grounded microphone - but infinitely more entertaining to a crowd, since you'll be doing heretofore un-named dances on stage as you flail wildly, attempting to unfasten the strap. Unfortunately, that would be pretty much a lost cause, since you have zero control (or less) over the aforementioned flailing.

Geez, I make it sound like *such* phun... ;-)
