: I know one of the best ways to improve my playing is listening to music more and more..
: But I have a problem.. I don't know what should I listen to.. I mean, which guys, which Bass players. But don't tell me these new guys ( like Wooten, Flea and stuff). I love them and respect them a lot, but I'm looking for the old guys, the guys that made the history of bass (Jamerson, Jaco, etc...). Can you guys give me a list of players that I should listen to, as well as the recordings or songs ?
: Thanks for the help !
: Bye,

Some bass players not yet mentioned who influenced me are:
Jack Bruce from Cream
The guy from the Jimi Hendrix Experience - I forget his name.
Tim Bogart from Vanilla Fudge - also check out the album he did with Jeff Beck "Beck, Bogart, and Appeice.
Geezer Butler - Old black Sabbath stuff
Chris Squire - Yes
A forgotten bass player who could really jam was the guy in Iron Butterfly.
I also like a lot of session guys in 60's 70's who worked with Simon and Garfunkle, Carol King, Don Maclean, etc. There's a lot of great bass playing in the lighter pop rock of that era.
Finally whoever did the bass playing in Traffic as well as all of the bass player who have played with Jethro Tull.

Bob
