This is just a matter of practise.
You can do 1234 (in other words index longfinger ringfinger pinky) or 1324 or 4321. If you allready play the usual 12 aproach, it'll take you time to get speed out of your new fingerstyle. So keep practising.

I don't use all four that often. I just do the 12... unless one of the fingers starts to hurt I just replace it with the 3:d or 4:th. It's all about practise :) Oh, and the thumb comes in handy on more occation then slapping ;) If you are tapping and soloing and need a string stroked (not hammered on with the left) I ususally use my right hand thumb for this, however, the thumb comes from a different angle then in normal playing, so it takes some practise to make a simmilar note...tonally I mean. It gets a different charectaristic..small, but it's there for the world to like or hate ;)

As for lessons... All I could find was
http://www.musiciansnews.com/bass/articles/intro/ (lesson1)
http://www.musiciansnews.com/bass/lessons/bass_guitar_5_finger_right_hand_technique/ (followuplesson)
