: In one of my frantic "do something mad" moods, i began to tune my bass into stupid tunings (DBDA, GF#EG#, BEBE, and on and on........) and came up with some RIDICULOUS RIFFS.
: Now I can't stop experimenting with stupid tunings. Tapping in different tunings makes me need to 'think' again about what I am playing and where I am going.
: As a result I have improved(and am improving) - both technically and theoretically, and I was at that point where I started thinking to myself 'I've learn't it all', but using these tunings has hammered it home that one can NEVER master any instrument - there is always something more to be learn't.
: Anyway, just wondering if any other bassists use different tunings at all? What are they?Did they work out or turn nasty?
: Cheers in advance,
I know someone who plays a conklin 7-string w/ the strings tuned down a whole
step: ADGCFBbEb. I was told that it is easier to play and there is a difference
in sound. This guy really does have a great sound! I've experimented with it and
I do feel and hear a difference. Hey, it's a 7-string, you can afford to lose some
of those high notes anyway.
