: >>>Hi Dave,
: Have you tried the Thomastik flats?? If you're into getting upright
: tones from your electric, Thomastiks are the finest flatwound string
: made, period. I've tried the Pyramids; more like the Rotosound 77's.
: The Thomastiks will cost you more, they're Austrian made, so a little
: more pricey, but they LAST AND LAST!!...For rounwounds, I only play
: stainless strings, primarily Rotosound RS66 swingmasters 40-100 guage,
: and 99's which are the Piano String Design (contact core), The D'Addario
: PRISMS are super bright long-lasting stainless strings that I really love
: too, but have been in short supply lately around town. FYI, there are
: only a few actual manufacturers of bass strings world-wide (less than
: 15, at last count) So a lot of those "boutique" guitar companies actually
: source their strings from one of the big string makers and simply re-package
: them with their own logos and labels. Almost ALL of the world's string
: makers are winding on VINCI stringwinding machines with nearly identical
: input materials, with the exception of ROTOSOUND which uses their own,
: purpose-built winding machines and only high-grade Swedish wire..Rotosound
: has had some Q.C. problems in the recent past, but I spoke with Martyn
: How, CEO of Rotosound, and he's assured me that these problems have been
: corrected. I haven't had a bunk Rotosound string in over 4 years. So
: I'm back to playing Rotosounds again!!
: Cheers,
: Pat H
I use D'Addario XL's, I have tried the Prisms and actually love them, there light and bright, so light my bass was in need of adjustments, etc. So I have stuck w/ the XL's, but lately I have been thinking about the ol rotosound round wound, 45-105 swing 66, I used these for years and your right Pat they are a very solid string, very good tone, and at an awesome price.
"""just a note, has anyone ever strung their bass with different strings, such as I have been thinking about stringing my '70's 4 string ibanez roadster with a low B.. any comments? Suggestions? Experience with this??
Peace and chicken grease
Thanx,
Rob
