: I'm in the middle of refinishing an old Ibanez Roadster Bass. (lets keep in mind, I got this bass, kinda thrown in when I purchased an SWR and a keyboard, so there are no sentimental feelings) Anyhow, the matter at hand is this, I have another bass, my exclusive.. I've just stripped the finish off the Ibanez, and was sitting here debating to make it my first fretless ever!!, Its a solid maple neck, this bass is surprisingly well built, I wasnt going to touch the neck in my refinish project, but now I look at it, and well it could use some sanding and new urethane or what evers on it, and Im looking at the frets thinking it could use a fret job as well.. But now I need someone to help influence my decision on just pulling the frets out all together.>>>
: What should I do? I have read up on defretting a bass, you know the heat trick etc, but when I get them out, what is recommended to fill them with??
: Is a maple neck a good choice for fretless, is there a lot of maintanance with the fretless? if defretted, What type of finish on the maple neck should I apply, also should I stay with roundwounds, or switch to flatwounds, will roundwounds damage the fretboard?
I say DO IT! It fun and easy, and you get to learn fretless too! I used an epoxy called PC-7, and it came out REALLY good.
