: : I recently bought a bass amp with a 15 and a tweeter. having a tweeter sounded like a good idea, but now that I have one I can't seem to figure out a reason for having it.
: : There's a separate volume control for it and when i turn it up all i seem to get is more amplified noise - I suppose if I liked the noise this would be a great thing.
: : I play a 4 string and my only guess is that a tweeter is something a 6 or more string player would value.

: : Can anybody shed some light on my tweeter mystery?

: : Bob

: I agree with you Bob. In an article about bass cabinets it said that a tweeter produces sounds at 8 Khz and up. This hardly seem to be a frequency bass players should be conserned about. I have an EQ on my head (amp head that is) the highest frequency on it is 8 Khz. When I have brand new strings, a really sparkly sound, I can notice a difference when I change the possition of the 8 Khz band but it hardly makes my overall sound different only more noise and ear pains to anyone around without ear plugs.

: P.S. I don't have a tweeter on my cabinet but I reqularly play a cabinet that has.

Count me among those that can(and does) live without tweeters in my bass rig. I guess guys who slap a lot like 'em, but all tweeters do, IMO, is add "scritchy" noise to the mix...and that's the guitar player's job.
