: I recently bought a bass amp with a 15 and a tweeter. having a tweeter sounded like a good idea, but now that I have one I can't seem to figure out a reason for having it.
: There's a separate volume control for it and when i turn it up all i seem to get is more amplified noise - I suppose if I liked the noise this would be a great thing.
: I play a 4 string and my only guess is that a tweeter is something a 6 or more string player would value.

: Can anybody shed some light on my tweeter mystery?

: Bob

The main reason to use a tweeter in a bass amp is just to try to make it sound
more open. It's just there to accentuate the upper harmonics of the higher notes, but I agree that most of the time no one notices the difference. My 60 watt Bassman has a tweeter matched to a 12, but, there's no separate control.
Bob, try playing with the control all the way off, then increase it gradually.
After you reach the 10 or 11 o'clock position, you probably won't hear any difference, just hiss. I wonder about this *improvement* myself.
