: Hello again! Anyways, i has more questions!
: 1) for playing primarily rock (if it makes a difference) how many strings would a bass have?
Alex,
Answer: "Yes." ;-)
Generally, most rockers have used 4-string basses, although the 5's are gaining in popularity.
Rule Of Thumb: Get as many strings as you can play, and no more. ;-)
: 2)What is the real difference in number of strings?
The difference is the pitch range that you're dealing with. You have more flexibility with the extra strings; you can get lower than the low E with a 5-string, or higher than the high G with a 5, 6, or 7.
: 3) What company makes basses with, well, shorter necks i guess?
Quite a few, actually; for example:
Fender/Squier makes the Bronco Bass;
Epiphone makes the EB-0 reissue, Rivoli reissue, and Viola basses;
Danelectro makes a couple short-scale basses;
Quite a few of the high-end/custom companies also make short-scale basses, as well.
: thanks in advance
Hope that helps!
