Most of my gigs are in a church setting; lots of people and carpet to suck up sound. Someone told me rounds are the way to go to get a bright enough sound that won't get sucked up. It works! If you want the brighter sound but don't want to chew up your fingerboard, you might want to try some strings that start out round but are ground to feel like flats. Can't remember what the brand is. Haven't tried them myself but have heard good reports. There's another brand that are half-ground; flat on the fingerboard side but round on the top. Check with your local dealer, if he doesn't stock them they should be in his catalog.
