: I play in a rock band (kinda like Lenny Kravitz) and I am in the market for a new bass and I saw a fretless Warwick Corvette at my local Guitar Center and I fell in love with it. I am not a slap-pop type player but I do use my thumb from time to time for an extra boost. Would a fretless bass be good in a rock band?

Mike,
A fretless bass can work in a rock band context, although it's *not* exceptionally common.

The one thing I'd give as a caveat is that fretless is *significantly* different from playing a fretted bass; playing a fretless requires a *lot* more precise fingering (like Django said), and if you're not used to it, you might not want to deal with the learning curve, depending on how fast you'd have to get up to speed.

Hope that helps!

-Bob
