On a technical level - tone strictly as a function of frequency - you are incorrect. Volume does indeed modulate tone, or at least our perception of it. In fact, nearly every home stereo system on the market contains a 'loudness' control whose specific function is to increase bass output (& some high-end) at low volume. But I refer you to the site you referred me to: www.amptone.com/g069.htm

I have played guitar in more than a few bands. I am NOT a fan of killing eardrums. I have tried a bunch of different amps, effects, simulators, etc. For certain playing situations nothing else works! The sustain & "tonal thing" that comes from a simulator just doesn't sound quite like that which comes from saturated-tube volume thru 4x12 cabinets. It is NOT a myth. PEACE

: This myth is responsible for a lot of hearing problems. Tone is not a function of volume. Check out www.amptone.com for LOTS of excellent info on this subject.
