: : Just purchased Peavey Basic 112(50watts;1-12"Blue Marvel spk).
: : It's OK;bought it even though user reviews on HarmonyCentral were lukewarm.
: : For the money($250new;I paid $175,mint condition used)nothing seems to be as good. Can anyone tell me if I can get better sound quality by replacing the speaker with a JBL,E-V,Jensen,etc? I don't see them offered for sale in catalogs such as musician's friend, etc. 25 years ago, when I palyed professionally,I bought two very cheap ($75 new)Univox bass amps. the amp was only about 20 watts, but I replaced the cheap speakers with JBL's. A "Y" cord connected my P-bass to the two amps.I set one amp on stage left, set for lows, and the other on stage right, set for highs;the sound was incredible.
: : Anyone ever try this;can I buy another Peavey and expect super performance?

: : Francis X.

: >>>>> I don't think changing the speaker will have much effect, the Peavey
: speakers are generally pretty good, besides, upgrading to a state
: of the art say, JBL will cost you more than what you paid for the
: amp itself. 50 watts isn't much considering how much power it takes
: to reproduce low frequencies although I used to have a Peavey TKO-65
: that was INCREDIBLY loud for it's rating. Go figure!

: Cheers
: Pat H

I have three words--eminence,eminence,eminence.I changed the speakers out once in my Genz-Benz to Eminence, and it was the best thingI ever did. There is a guy out here in Md.that keeps Chuck Berrys' amps for his mid-atlantic appearances in his shed, I got his # from Atomic Music in College Park,MD., and her switched those two 10s' for 35 bux a piece!!!
Good Luck
Scott
