: Just purchased Peavey Basic 112(50watts;1-12"Blue Marvel spk).
: It's OK;bought it even though user reviews on HarmonyCentral were lukewarm.
: For the money($250new;I paid $175,mint condition used)nothing seems to be as good. Can anyone tell me if I can get better sound quality by replacing the speaker with a JBL,E-V,Jensen,etc? I don't see them offered for sale in catalogs such as musician's friend, etc. 25 years ago, when I palyed professionally,I bought two very cheap ($75 new)Univox bass amps. the amp was only about 20 watts, but I replaced the cheap speakers with JBL's. A "Y" cord connected my P-bass to the two amps.I set one amp on stage left, set for lows, and the other on stage right, set for highs;the sound was incredible.
: Anyone ever try this;can I buy another Peavey and expect super performance?

It's quite risky to go change your speakers it easily can be a waste of money.
Like it already has been said many times here Peavey has quite good speakers
BUT even good speakers can make a whole lot of different sounds. I bassically
use the same bass and amp head everywhere but I use different cabinets in
different places and the sound difference is huge all thanks to the speakers.
I personally would recommend Celestion speakers if you deside to change them
but as I already pointed out you might be loosing a lot of money on something
you won't like.
