: does it matter if i use speakers in my cabinet that arent "recommended" for instrumental use. I found some dayton 10" series 2 woofers which have a nice frequency (35-3,000Hz) respone but in thier description it says nothing about them being used for musical instruments.

Ross,
Good question.

I'm not familiar with the Dayton woofers, so I can't really comment on them specifically, but generally, I wouldn't use anything but a musical instrument speaker for an instrument amplifier.

The reason is that different speakers are optimized for different uses. For example, guitar amp speakers are designed to add some coloration to the tone; bass amp and PA speakers are usually 'transparent' (no coloration added).

Needless to say, home/auto sound system speakers are another matter altogether...

Hope that helps!

-Bob
