: I play an active spector bass but have recently picked up a Fender Precision.

: I'm finding that the Fender has a great low end but is a bit "Hollow" sounding. There just isn't any cut through the mix growl I get with my spector.

: Would anyone recommend I replace the stock P-pickups with active? or should I install a J-pickup (if that's possible)?

: OR should I suck it up and learn to appreciate the sound as is?

: Any advice would be great. I've been playing a while, but I'm as techy as a rubber band.

::Pete,

I used to have a P bass with a J pickup at the bridge. You can get the "best of both worlds" with an extra pickup at the bridge. I got so used with extra "thump" of the J pickup that I almost always used it up all the way up.

But as wisely said by El Pájaro, if you can afford, keep them both. A Spector can be useful too. I miss my middle eighties P bass!!

:(

Peace,

JP
