: Hello,

: I have an SR506 Ibanez six string bass that I bought 5 or so years ago. I like the play and feel of the bass but the overall tone lacks eveness across the strings. The B, E and A strings are much more present then the D, G & C strings. It's just not even sounding from top to bottom string. I've tried different amp settings to try and 'even' it out but with no luck.

: I recently bought a 5 string Carvin "fretless" and I'm real happy with the quality and tone of this bass. I love that from top string to bottom string is very even sounding in levels and tone. But when I switch back to my six string, I have to do so much amp and bass tweaking that it just takes too much time.

: So, what I'm considering is changing out the Ibanez ADX6 soapbar pickups with some replacements. I've been looking at EMG-40P pickups but I'm just not sure. Anyone have any experience with changing out pickups to get a different sound? Any advice/ideas would be appreciated.

: Thanks,
: ddazey

The EMG40P is a perfect fit and sounds great, or for a more defined tone you can try Basslines PhaseII's, they are definately awesome, but, you would have to do a little bit of routing to make them fit, to hear how they sound, you can check out my lessons a www.bassically.net, then decide for yourself.

Either way, a pickup over-haul will make it sound like a brand new bass.
