: : : My EB3 is red. The Serial Number is 898006. I believe it is a 'long scale,'
: : : ie, it is not a guitar neck.
: : If your EB-3 has "Made In U.S.A." beneath the serial number on the back of the headstock, it's from 1973-75; if not, it's from 1967 or 1969 (Gibson reused serial numbers on numerous occasions).
: : The regular scale on the EB-3 was 30" (short scale); the EB-3L had a 34" scale.
: Thanks for the information. My EB3 has the 'made in the USA,' thus, I now know that mine is from 1973-75. When I purchased the bass I was 'told' that this was one of the final EB3's made.
That kinda depends on how you define "final"; the EB-3 was made until 1979. :-)
: One last question: where do you measure the length? Thanks again for all your help. You can watch Ebay to see it go sometime very soon. What you won't be able to see is me crying while it goes. . .(though I will put a fairly pricey reserve on it. I need to sell it, not give it away!)
The scale length is measured from the nut to the bridge; it should be either 30" or 34" (roughly; no biggie if it's a tiny bit off because of intonation).
Good luck! :-)
