: hello , I would like to ask if somebody knows what's that little bass paul was always playing with the Beatles , seemed like an elect.acoustic body. I saw a guy on my town playing one alike but couldn't read the mark. Thanks very much.

Tracker,
That was a Hofner 500/1 bass, which became known and loved as the "Beatle Bass" after Paul McCartney popularized it.

The 500/1 has been in and out of production over the years, and as of this point, is currently in production.

The downside is that Hofners are *very* expensive, since they're imported from Germany.

There are clones of the Beatle Bass available, if you're interested but can't afford the price. Epiphone has their Viola bass, for example, and I believe that Jay Turser makes one, as well. There are also cheaper ones like the Rogue (available through Musician's Friend) that aren't too spendy.

Hope that helps!

-Bob
