: : Thanks for the reply HUB! I have a question though... you said I should pull out the active electronics in it. Are you saying I should just get rid of them and make it a passive bass or are you saying I should replace the active electronics with something else? I'm new to all of this, bear with me! ;-)
: : Thanks

: Hi DDazey,
: What HUB means is take all the electronics out of the bass (the ones that are in there now) and replace them with EMG electronics (the pick ups you buy will come with a volume an a tone per pick-up). There should be extensive instructions on how to put them in. I also have an Ibanez and I just replaced mine with 40DC's (both of them) and an EMG BTC System (bass, treble, volume and balance). The BTC was optional, but it gives you that extra bass and treble as opposed to just the tone/volume that comes with the pickup. You have to buy the BTC (or BTS if you have room for 4 knobs on your bass) seperatly. Anyway, the sound difference is amazing! No background noise at all (that I've heard so far)! Very clear and very loud. My recomendation is go with the 40DC (Dual Coil) rather than 40P, but that's just a suggestion.
: I hope this helps!
Funny that you mention the BTS because after a little more research, that is what I have on order (BTS for 4 knobs). I'm taking your and HUB's advice and stripping out the old electronics. The reason I was going with the 40P instead of the 40DC was the "maximum recommended string width" on the 40DC is only 3.125 and when I measured the string spacing on each of my pickups, it showed 3.00 and 3.18. Since the 3.18 was larger then the recommended 3.125, I opted away from the 40DC. But now you have me thinking that I maybe ought to get one 40P for the 3.18 and one 40DC for the 3.00 hmmmmmmm ;-)
Thanks for the advice. I'm glad to hear you are liking your change. Makes me want to upgrade mine that much more. By the way, why did you choose the 40DC over the 40P? Had you heard each before? Any comments would be appreciated.
