: I'm looking for a couple of good books or videos, for someone who knows little to nothing about playing bass. My father played bass his whole life and when he passed away he left me his guitar and amp so I'm trying to teach myself how to play. Thanks for any help you can give,

Find a bass player and learn a few basic walks and licks. Then play along to your favorite music until you get the progressions down. Develop your own style! Blues, bluegrass and swing country are some of the most fun songs to learn to walk that bass on. Stick with simple three chord progression tunes like that until you are comfortable with the whole neck and your pickin style and remember - bassmen do it in rythm.
