: We've not yet bought a Combo, the ones I've seen advertised for sale most are Peavey TNT 115, Trace Elliot 715 or Commando 15, and Laney RBW300. Are these ok amps? I don't think we get the choice over here in the UK that you get in the US.

Steve,
I think I'd agree with Paige that the Trace Elliot would be the best of the 3 amps.

: The double bass player has yet to go bass guitar shopping but he probably won't want to spend a huge amount of money in case he doesn't like the instrument. Do you have any advice here, is Fender Squire a good place to start?

Actually, you might want to check out http://uk.musicyo.com; they have the Kramer Focus 420S bass for 119.99 (not sure if that's pounds or euros, though), and I'd say that it's a *much* better instrument than the Squiers, and probably quite a bit less expensive, as well!

I got one myself a few months back, and I *love* mine! :-)

Hope that helps!

-Bob
