album. That line is about as funky as you can imagine, without
being a "slap-fest". I always introduce my bass students to
that tune, and as much old Motown as they can digest. To really
get a feel for funk, you have to go back and check out the
old Motown/Stax/Atlantic recordings like Aretha, James Brown,
Wilson Pickett/Ike & Tina, etc, etc. etc. That stuff is just
great, and It will introduce you to players like Jerry Jemmott,
Tommy Cogbill, Duck Dunn, Jamerson, Bernard Odum, and others;
These guys were the genesis of funk; it all progressed from
what they did during that time. I hope this helps.
