: Hi all, I'd like to have your opinion of a Hofner 500/1 Beatle Bass...Is it a good instrument, or just over-hyped because Paul McCartney used one? I happen to think it's a beautiful instrument, but have never played one. Thanks in advance!

I have a 1967 Beatle Bass .First descent bass I owned . Still have it.Played it for 30 years .loved it especially because of my short fingers .It was the right sound for rock at that time and in the 70's when I switched to folk music it was just what the doctor ordered.
I now use a Samik to get a little more weight without too much more neck.
The Beatle Bass is much more to me than just a guitar. We grew a lot together.
It's in very good shape and I've recently read that it may be worth over 150,000
What can I say? I cant imagine parting with somthing thats given me so much.
