I've played the Smith 5s and 6s, but not the 7 yet. His intruments are lovely and well made. They have a distincive sound and feel, too. You may want to check out the Fodera 7 if you're looking that way. Bill Conklin's stuff is pretty impressive, too, and he offers 3 distinct levels of instruments: the Groove Tools line is the introductory quality, the New Century is the intermediate, and the custom shop will make anything you want. I've heard good things about the Roscoe equipment also, but it looks to be tighter spaced.
