: : I recently purchased a Hofner Beatle Bass and found that my local music store does not carry strings for it. I was wondering what the best kind of strings to get and where to get them. I would prefer a good flat-wound string. I have e-mailed Boosey & Hawakes but they just do not reply.....HELP

THERE ARE SEVERAL WEBSITES THAT WILL SEND STRINGS WITH CREDIT CARD INTERNET PURHCASE. I KNOW THAT LABELLA SPECIFICALLY MAKES A FLATWOUND SET FOR THIS BASS, AND I AM SURPRISED TO HEAR THAT PYRAMID STRINGS LEAVE A LOT TO BE DESIRED. I HAVE A LATE 60'S MODEL GRECO BEATLE BASS COPY THAT IS REALLY WELL MADE,AND TO STAY WITH THE VINTAGE TYPE SOUND,I AM USING A SET OF THOMASTIK-ENFELD SHORT-SCALE FLATWOUNDS. THESE ARE BY FAR THE BEST SOUNDING FLATWOUND STRINGS I HAVE EVER TRIED. I ALSO HAVE THE LONG-SCALE THOMASTIKS ON MY RICKENBACKER 4002,AND CANNOT BELEIVE HOW BRITE AND CRISP THEY ARE FOR FLATS. THESE ARE EITHER GERMAN OR AUSTRIAN MADE, AND ARE OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY-I CAN ASSURE YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED-TRY THE TUNING PEG OR JUSTSTRINGS.COM-I THINK BOTH PLACES CARRY THEM. GOOD LUCK!
