: I am going to be building a bass cab with 2 speakers to go with a 350 watt head. I will be wiring the 2 8-ohm speakers in parallel so the total impedance is 4 ohms. My question is should each speaker be rated to 350 watts rms or should the total of both ratings equal 350? (ex. 180 watts rms each) Thanks.

Will, as Pat said, you should have some headroom with the speakers. Now, will you always be using this 350watt head, or will you possibly upgrade even if it's
not in the near future? A safe rule of thumb is have the cabinet able to handle at least the full output of the head, and at most, double. You could make the cabinet handle four times the heads rated output, but this is rarely done. If you look at the specs of most head/bottom combinations that most manufacturers sell, the head and cabinet are usually very close to each other in power/power handling. If I may make a suggestion, two woofers each being able to handle 250 - 300 watts each would give you a cab capable of safely handling the full output of your head, with a nice cushion of headroom. This is just my own opinion, but, I like the fact that you're going to make the cab a 4 ohm cab. This way your head will be putting out its all into one bottom. I just happen to like the sound of a single high powered bottom being pushed rather than two cabs giving a fuller, but less "driven" sound. If your head can go down to two
ohms let me say this: I was just at another forum, and the topic was about heads being rated at two ohms, and failing when given a two ohm load and pushed hard.
Something to think about.

Good luck,
