It depends, you could raise the action at the bridge as you described, but the buzzing may be a symptom of the truss rod needing an adjustment. That should only be done by someone who knows what they are doing, because you can really screw up a bass neck if you do it wrong. I would get your friend to take it to a luthier, or do it for him/her as a favour, a setup is usually quite inexpensive. -B
: I borrowed a friends bass (1998 Fender precision), and noticed that the strings are creating a hell of a buzzing sound. How do you set the action up right on this? The tailpiece has spring loaded screws and an allen key type screw to raise and lower the strings. Being I'm a drummer and trying to learn a bit of the bass, I'm sort of stuck how to get the fret buzzing to stop or minimize.I don't want to tamper with his bass and screw it up, although this looks like a fairly simple job once you know what to do.
: Any suggestions how to set up the action right would be much appreciated.
