: : Hey All, I gotta tell ya, that "4/4 time" guy was me. I was bored that day. Anyway, that's all I gotta say about that. Peace all. P.S. I like Jaco. Jaco good. Jazz good. Me hungry. go...now.......
: apology accepted... do you really feel that way about jazz? I am truly interested... there is jazz that when I hear it sounds like garbage to me - some of the ultra-frenetic fusion oriented stuff from the late 70's especially, so I can understand some of what you said... but just like any genre - there IS good jazz out there - and it is an incredible music theory experience to analyze good jazz.... just read some of Carol Kayes books on jazz soloing - you need to KNOW music theory to even start to work thru some of her stuff....
: Anyway - this can be a forum to discuss why you don't like jazz - I, for one, would like to know... I am a jazz head, myself, so perhaps you can skewer me with your rapier-like wit!!!!! (only kidding.... ;-)
No, actually Paige, I love Jazz. I am starting my third semester of music theory soon and I have quite an extensive collection of jazz. My favorite is the Weather Report stuff. Also, Stanley Clarke is way up there. But I really like the old stuff, and I would like to branch out more. I guess I am stll a novice. But like you said, some of the really bizarre fusion stuff can be a bit of a reach. All in all I was kidding on my posts. Like I said, I was bored. The best musicians in the world are the ones stuck in smokey jazz club not getting paid, but still doing what they do because they love it. that will be me. I have a job...I am set up for retirement, so I will always be playing....just because I love it...till I die. Peace.. John
