Well, that kinda depends on what size the pickup is that you want to put in. :-)

*And* where you want to put it (i.e., replace the old pickup or put it somewhere else).

Usually, a router is used to create the pickup cavities; if you want to put a pickguard around the pickup, the size of the hole isn't quite as much an issue as if you wanted to mount it directly into the wood.

With the electronics, there are *so* many different ways to do it, it would be impossible to go into the necessary detail here; you might want to check out the "Wiring 101" section at Stewart-MacDonald's Guitar Supply ( - get a copy of their *free* catalog while you're at it!).
