: 1. What do I do with my slapping hand? Should I keep it off the body or plant my palm on the body?
-----Keep it off the body.
: 2. Where should I slap the string with my thumb? I read that I should do this on last fret on the neck (24th) but I've seen pro's hit
: strings at different places.
----you get different sound by hitting different places, there's nop right or wrong answer to that.
: 3. Is slapping easier with different types of strings? Like flatwounds?
-----I don't personally like flatwounds for slap, they seem, well, flat.
: 4. Is it there any advantage to using the bridge or neck pickup more?
----Depends on the bass and where you are slapping it. Find the sound you want, then leave it.
: 5. Anyone know a good slapping excercise to help improve my speed and precision?
---Victor Wooten has some cool lessons on his site (see the bass players section, activebass.com has lots of lessons as well. There are a couple of videos out that are supposed to be pretty good, Bill Dickens has one, Stu Hamm has one. The best thing you could possible do though is to find a teacher.
http://www.elderly.com has a lot of good stuff.
: Thanks, beam me up Bootsie
