Haven't played any commercially built 8's but I built one of my own. Fretless, 30" scale, active Carvin pickups. Fattest sound I ever heard! The octaves really make you stand out over the guitars. It'll take some hand strengthing exercises for the left hand; two strings at a time can be rough at first but well worth the effort. Have a tuner handy at all times; one string out of tune just a hair can be "interesting." I have a Dean 4-string and if the 8's sound anywhere close, it ought to be a killer. Overall, a great addition to your arsenal.
