It was reported that Lynyrd Skynyrd bassist Leon Wilkeson had died a few days ago. I am deeply saddened by his passing away. I had met Leon a while after the band's tragic accident in the 70's at his home in Jacksonville. He was in between operations on his left arm and could not play yet. He nevertheless showed me his Gibson bass and his Marshall amps and was one of the nicest players I have met. I also was fortunate to play on a bill with the original act and was extremely impressed with their total dedication as they set up and played their show.
I last saw him play on Austin City Limits earlier this year. He was in fine form.
May I offer his family, band mates, friends and fans my deepest sympathies.
Rest in peace, brother. Rock us Forever.
