: hey guys, i play a fretless usa deluxe jazz, and i'm in a ska band, but i'm having trouble getting a good sound out of it for ska, like my low end seems fine, but something like the d and g string dont' cut as much. I have a carvin R1000 head + carvin 18 cab, plus i have a 4x10 i keep at home, as of now i just use the 18 when playing with the band, do you think the 4x10 could help? if not, any eq tricks? i plan on using this with the school jazz ensamble. The eq on this is so confusing. If you have a carvin email me, i need help learning to use it... muhale, i'm so confused,

: Also, another question,
: I see all of these other bass players with all of these rack compressors, sonic maximizers, and power conditionsers, and i'm confused, is any of this stuff worth spending money on? i don't understand what any of it does. i wish there was an amp faq out there somewhere. ahg. sleep.

: thanks
: walt

Aside from EQ settings, you can adjust the pickups by increasing or decreasing the distance from the top of the pickup to the bottom of the string. try lowering the bass side a little and maybe if the "feel" is still good, raise the treble side a bit.You can really even out the output of a bass by doing this. good luck peace....john
