: This is an all encompassing question that I am very curious about.
: How SERIOUS are you about the bass?
I've been playing since late in my senior year in high school. Guitar players were a dime a dozen then 'cause everyone was hot on Inna Gadda Da Vida or Sunshine of Your Love, etc. That was back in '69 and I haven't stopped since. I've played in smokey taverns (where the piano player took all the tips), steak house (where the piano player split the tips 'cause I wasn't union) and just about every type situation you can think of. I always said I'd play anything for anyone anywhere. I played for a friends demo that made me sound like a bass God (but it didn't get picked up) and I've even given lessons over the years. Did I make any money over all those 30+ years? NOT A DIME!! I've been an advanced amateur player and wouldn't change a thing. Some things just don't work unless you are a die-hard lover of the instrument and know how it fits in with the other members of the band. I don't practice near enough (how many of us really do), I don't have a huge CD library of bass giants but I am dead serious aout what I do and won't give it up for anything.
