Yes thank you for great info on strings and thank you for the great article this month on globalbass.com since I'm just learning both drums and bass the article was an "oh yeah" for me.
: : any experience with the difference between the two would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
: I use roundwounds on my 7 string, and flats on my Fender PBass Special(PJ pickups). I get a more contemporary "growly" sound off of the 7 string, and a more thumpy, muted sound off of the Fender. When I recorded a CD recently of seven jazz standards, I used my Fender with some foam jammed up under the strings at the bridge for the actual bass lines, and used a pick, striking the strings between the neck and the "P" pickups. This gave me a real authentic "old-timey" sound - very close to an upright bass sound, believe it or not. I used my Carvin 6 sring with rounds (didn't have the 7 string at the time) for any solo work.
: It's a matter of taste and what sound you are looking for. Neither is better than the other - simply what is the sound YOU are looking for. Are you doing contemporary stuff? Probably rounds is what you want then. Are you doing early Motown or Real Book jazz standards? You may want to look into flats.
: hope that helps...
