: Hi bass folks. I have a Trace Eliott AH350 head, that features the GP12SMX preamp. Does anybody have some killing settings to share with me for that amp. I really have difficulties designing the tone I want. Thanx for all.

I have the 1215SMX combo that has the same preamp. The way I go about it is to start with all the settings flat and compression off. I then try for the best sound using the guitar's own pickup/tone settings. I then try the presets just to see if they do anything for me (sometimes they do but rarely). Then I switch in the graphic. The way I deal with the graphic is I start from the low end and just boost each one and put it back to flat before moving to the next one and I listen to see which ones boost something I like and which ones boost something I don't like and which ones are okay at mid-way. Then I put about 3 dB cut on all the nasty ones. Then I try 3 dB boost on all the nice ones. Finally I tweak them around a bit to get the sound I want. I'm wary of putting more than 6 dB cut or boost because it starts picking out individual notes too much and I try to keep a smooth curve with no more than 3 dB jumps between neighbouring bands for the same reason.
