: I was just able to get ahold of a Walter Woods amp, but unfortunately the D.I. is only a 1/4" jack.
: So, what DI do you guys recommend? I've heard good things about the Countryman, but is there much difference between that (Active
: - $160) and, say the Whirlwind IMP-2 (Passive - $39)?
: The Tech21 Sansamp seems to be a favorite, but if I'm spending thousands on my bass and amp, will the Sansamp change the sound?
: Wouldn't I be better off having no tone controls on the DI and letting the bass/amp control the sound?
: (It's pretty obvious that I've always used the XLR DI on my amps)
: Any comments / suggestions welcome...
There is a big difference between active and passive - get the active if you can. The Countryman seems to be the choice of most of the sound companies I've worked with, very reliable, and sounds great. The Sansamp will change your sound, it's more like a preamp/amp simulator with a DI output. A DI without tone controls that sends your sound to the board without changing it would be the best thing, although if there is a house soundman he will probably change your tone anyway....
