: If I can't find a black pick guard, is there a method for refinishing a white pick guard,
: turning it black?

I searched all over the place for a black pick guard for a p-bass and I couldn't find one, this is because I have a cheap Hohner p-bass. All pick guards I found were made by Fender and so on. Apparently all pick guards are slightly different. Fender pickguards only fit fender basses for example, I don't know if this is right but that's what one guy told me.

When I went to a good gutiar store the guy there told me that if I sent him my pick guard then he would send it onto his friend who would make a custom size pick guard that would fit exactly to my bass, in any colour. He told me that it would cost about 40 ( around $60 I think ). You might be able to find someone who could make one for you.

If you do have a fender or another big brand guitar then you might be able to buy one from pretty much any guitar shop. But, most pickguards are white, etc. and you might have a little trouble finding a black one, I did.

As regards to simply painting it or whatever, I wouldn't recommend it unless you were sure what you were doing. I screwed up a good pick guard by spraying it with the wrong kind of paint. I sealed it with some weird spray sealant, but the paint had eaten away at the plastic and taken away it's smooth surface. Take the pick guard to a hardware store or whatever, the people who work there might know what to use to paint it.

Good luck finding a black pick guard, you might need it !
I wonder if you want a black pick guard because you have a black p-bass ?
I wanted a black pick guard because I didn't like the black and white look.
