Hey I may be a little late on this topic, but here's my experience... .
I've been playing in clubs for a while and there has never been a problem with a soundman miking and DI'ing the bass. Any GOOD soundman will know that this is best way to get the truest sound. Another thing to remember is if you DI right through the back of your amp (I have an Ampeg SVT III with a DI jack in the back) to set it to "post" and not "pre". Surprisingly a lot of sound guys didn't know this. I don't own my own mics but I do recommend from having used it SansAmp Bass Driver DI. It rocks.
