Rosewood vs Maple fretless

I posted this question further down the board but I fear the original question is so old no one will see this one. So, here it is again. Sorry about the double post.

WRT rosewood vs maple for fretless bass. I've heard that rosewood wears very quickly on fretless necks and that maple is much better. What are your experiences? I'm considering converting a bass with a rosewood fingerboard over to fretless. I've also heard that rosewood fingerboards can be saturated with epoxy to make them last a lot longer. Anybody have any experience with this?
