Now this is coming from a Beatles fan, how about a Rickenbacker of a Hofner? For a lightweight, fast, fun bass, I love my Hofner. I can understand why Paul McCartney is still playing his at almost 60! For tonal quality, I love my Ric. It's a different beast than the little Hofner, and great to play for it's bottom. If you're in for options, they've got a4, 5 and 8 string, and the re-vamped 4001c64, a lot closer to Paul's 4001S.

: iam looking for a new bass and dont know what to get.i have a 5 string thru neck warwick thumb and a musicman erne ball.the warwick is ok but its very heavy. iam not to interested in fenders because i have never found 1 i liked.so anyone got any ideas i have about 2500 (about $3500)to spend maybe a bit more if i find THE ONE.thanks
