I'm looking at a Modulus Q5 now on E-bay for $1000 but I haven't met the reserve. I haven't played a 5 string in practice before but been playing bass for over 25 years. So you think the Modulus Q5 would be the way to go for one of the finest 5 strings if I was to get one for a first 5 string??

: : : Anybody have any comments on Modulus basses?

: I have a new Q5. It is a fantastic bass. Well worth the money. It has been described as having a more "modern" sound than (I guess) something like a Jazz bass. This is true especially when I get excited and play really hard. Otherwise, you can get pretty much any sound out you want. The graphite neck is a huge relief, as my '72 Precision that I've had since new, has a slight twist in it and needs to have the action fairly high to overcome it. A 2 Octave neck PLUS 5 strings is a phenominal step up too.
