: i live in halifax (canada) and i'm lookin for a new bass but musicstop and a coupla of other places are 90% guitars and 10% bass...anyone know a place? and also...i ahve about 200 to 300 dollars (canadian...which is like..120 or 220 american) to spend..what kinds of basses should i look at..you know i'm poor cuz right now i have a peavy milestone 2...haha
Get yourself a Kramer Focus for $99 or Kramer Striker for $189 or Kramer Baretta for $199. I have a Baretta 5 strings and it is incredible. I did change the bridge to a Hipshot Wide and convert it into a string through for better tone. But even without those upgrades, the Kramer basses are incredible for the price. Very well built. You can get them at www.musicyo.com (Don't expect good customer service from them.. but they do have good deals)
If you can wait and save more money, consider Fender Standard Basses. Avoid Fender Squire models. They are cheap. Get Fenders at www.musiciansfriend.com
For your info, I also have a Fender American Standard P-Bass and Danelectro Hodad. Both 4 strings and are also very good basses but are more expensive.
Hope this helps.
