: Be careful about buying strings from I recently went to their website to buy a set for my Steinberger. (double ball end strings, not commonly available, at least with any selection) I followed the menu to the heading "D'Angelico Steinberger Double Ball Bass Guitar Strings". I selected a 5 string set and bought them online. When they arrived a week later, I was annoyed to find that they were too long for the Steinberger, and were in fact made for "European scale instruments such as Shack and Clover". (quote from the packaging.) No big deal, I'll just exchange them, right? Wrong! Because I did not notice the length problem until after I took the "B" string out of the package, JustStrings will not take them back, even for an exchange. I was told that I should have known that "extra long scale " meant that they would not fit my guitar, even though they are listed under "Steinberger". Since they are in New Hampshire and I'm in California, I guess I'm stuck. But I think that this is a chicken-s__t way to do business, and I won't buy anything from them again. Any suggestions for another source of strings would be appreciated.

Hey there,
Nasty way to do business indeed! One smart move (although it won't get you your money back) is to let everybody know how poor a service these people provide in places like this. Thanks for the tip.
Now, you don't mention where exactly in California you live ...perhaps Pat H can give you some advice on that one. However, I do know there's a guy near San Francisco named Fat Dog who runs a store called Subway Guitars. He buys strings by the bulk so he offers every possible kind of string at "proletarian" prices. He also sells individual strings instead of entire sets, too. I think he also has a website at or something. Check it out. Buena suerte and keep your bass up front in the mix,
