: i'm purchasing a fender bass soon, its a touch decision because the only music store around her that has many fenders dont really let anybody plug them in, theyre kind of strict and hate people who cant play like a badass but the axe will either be a standard precision special deluxe (yknow, the P/J hybrids) or a stan. jazz with active electronics. the tone i need is that pretty tone for slow melodic, sad but complex almost symphonic and the band i'm in has two bass players which make it a little hard sometimes to still 'cut through' and hear yourself well. do you know? can you help me?

Totally agree with Matt... on both points. Especially about the store. Tell them up front if they won't let you plug it in and try it out you'll go elsewhere and stick by it! Nothing hurts a store more than bad press. There's a store in my town that won't even look at you twice unless you're a professional player. Never been back since (over 20 years). They may still be in business, and I've spent thousands since then, but THEY didn't get any of it! Good luck on your search for the best bass and store.
Dave
