: I anyone has any sites, lessons, etc. for learning how to slap, please either e-mail me or post a message. I'd appreciate anything I can get.
Here's a site that might help: http://www.slapit.com/
I bought a copy of it ~ 15 years ago. It's decent instruction. It forces you to learn how to read bass notes (which is a good thing; lots of players can thrill you with their licks, but they can't read the music; and that can hold you back if you aspire to go into studio work).
The book gives licks to learn. It comes with a sample CD so you know how the lick is suppose to sound. Learn some of these licks. Eventually, what you want to be able to do is incorporate his ideas (and any other ideas/licks that you learn from others) into your own style. It's like taffy. You learn the basics of slap and then you mold it into your style of taffy.
Don't get discouraged if you don't replicate the sounds that you hear on the CD initially. It takes time and hand control to develop the coordination and stamina to slap. Stay with it and continue to practice. I say again, stay with it and continue to practice -- DAILY!!! Your fingers will get sore, but when "get it", you'll be one bad funkasaurus.
Good luck and slap on!
