Oh if it were only this simple. Good sound does not come from someone with a PA. It comes with experience. You bass not being heard on the recording is probably because it was louder than the PA, so the sound man didn't or barely had you going through the PA. If he had the recorder going through the "Tape Outs" then you just get a copy of the mix which will be vocal heavy since they are not amplified other than the PA. I would suggest finding a good sound company or even music store in the area. Team up with them. If they know that you will be calling them often, they'll work a little harder to make you happy. If you're playing out door stuff, and doing it even remotely right, you're really not going to want to deal with the bullshit that goes along with an outdoor PA.
