: My bass has started to make a strange buzzing noise.

: I'm sure that it's nothing to do with the truss rod or the bridge.

: It's worst when i'm playing around the tenth to seventeenth fret. You can hear it when it's not plugged into an amp, but when playing through an amp you can still hear the buzzing noise.

: Any suggestions as to what this might be?
: Thanks

Hi,
I guess I don't need to say you should take your axe to a qualified repairperson. Anyway, the situation you described may very well be a syntom of nut wear. Roundwound string can wear the nut material something fierce (the wear METAL frets, guess what they can do to a plastic or bone nut...). When the nut wears down, the strings sit lower on the board, thus making some unwanted string nioses.
Hope this helped. Buena suerte and keep your bass up front in the mix,

El Pájaro
