: My old Ibanez Roadstar II Custom bass has a very straight neck that causes some string buzz. I tried to loosen the truss rod to increase neck-string distance, but when turning the truss rod there is no more resistance. I can tighten it, but I can't loosen it any more! So... what can I do?

Hey Toby
I've got an 84 Ibanez Musician that had the same problem for a while. It was caused by me using really light gauge strings for a few years (30-90). I have since gone back to more regular gauges (45-105 and 40-100) and now the truss rod works fine again. The neck is not straight anymore though unless I use 40-100 where the tension between the string seem to balance the neck. They are quite sensitive, the necks of those old Ibanezes though.

Good luck

Stefan
